They call it “blind” faith for a reason…

Hi Patrick

The problem is that most people did not step one foot out of the cave, where as we see the light they cant get there yet, the darkness of faith can never see the light of reason and logic. Religion is a drug and you know how hard that is to kick . Just stay on your path and hold your ground you are not alone.

Hi Patrick,

Based on what I've experienced, the heroin dealer is worse than an a simple atheist.  Even the user is worse.  I had an older brother who was found clinically dead twice from heroin, and although he could be great company, we had to inventory the house before and after his visits.  He's clean now (he'll be 33 this year), but because of that and a list of other ways in which he abused his relationships with family members, my parents cut ties with him and subsequently so did I and my younger brother.

My younger brother (22) is an atheist who networks almost as a second job, and when he hits walls with evangelical logic, his patience, sense of humor, and relaxed approach to people are handy.  I'm much more jaded and jumpy than him (and more likely to step on people's means to hope as a consequence of dating an uncompromising Catholic for six years), but I can admit that his ability to get natural enemies to socialize and work together is no waste, and even he will tell you people are more comfortable choosing something more familiar, even when it's not necessarily the best option.

Don't give up helping people know you, though.  We Baltimorons are anxious and abrasive folks, but we're sweethearts deep down.  And good luck with your degree and work if I don't catch up with you later.

Cheers,

Ryan

I was heroin addict and dealer for about 17 years until I was incarcerated in the Ohio prison system, served my time, got clean (i still smoke weed, am am involved in legalization for medical marijuana), and am attending college as a psychology major, focusing on what are called "dual-diagnosis" or, more recently "co-occurring" d/o's, which is people who have psychological d/o's as well as addiction issues. I got less flak from backwards Baltimorons when I was a junkie and heroin dealer then I get now as an outspoken athiest. Now, correct me anyone who reads this, but isn't a heroin dealer worse then being an athiest? It's not even like I'm like some Meetup members who try to argue w/ the religious right, since they don't apply logic and reason, it's impossible to discuss athiesm/secular humanism w/ them, so I no longer try. When did society become so twisted and backwards? I guess I missed that episode...
