Ustream is live. The whole purpose of the site is live webcasts.

Even if we do cable access, there's no reason we can't do a simultaneous webcast of the same video feed.

Yeah, I thought of ustream/youtube, but I wanted to get the element of live calls on a cable system as opposed to essentially recruit callers.  Anyway, based on the response to my initial post, I'll be setting up a planning meeting as soon a sI see what's up with Comcast.

For the actual live podcast, there is a site called ustream.tv. It's not as well known as youtube, but it still has a huge user base. Then, of course, we can repost the videos on youtube when they are done.

I also have some pretty decent video editing skills I can contribute.

We just started our Boston Atheists podcast this month --
http://bostonatheists.org/podcast -- after deliberating on exactly these issues.
A cable access show seemed not worth the trouble, considering that
YouTube is a
free venue for videos and the podcast would just as effectively meet our needs
for broadcasting our own commentary.

A good preliminary to this kind of planning is to assess the resources
available elsewhere, especially what is being done with atheistic broadcast
media and rationalist teaching materials. Both of these, as has been said,
demanding amounts of expertise, time, money, and infrastructure, all of which is
best delegated to non-redundant projects.

As far as teaching goes, we decided that our time and money would be best spent
not in duplicating efforts underway elsewhere -- hello, Eugenie Scott! -- but in
doing fundraising for those other organizations, like the National Center for
Science Education and the James Randi Educational Foundational, that are doing
the work to meet our shared goals.

All best,

Zachary Bos
Director, Boston Atheists
(and who spends a lot of
time in Frederick County)

They have an excellent facility that you can make use of, so long as at least
one of the members of your production team is an AA county resident. I doubt I
would have time to participate in the production of the show itself, but I can
put you in touch with the guys at the studio and fill you in on any further info
you need about the Public Access production process.

TV show on their local cable system. I'd like to do that here, in the
greater Baltimore area. The question I have for the group is: Who's in?
Obviously I can't do it by myself, so I'm going to need LOTS of help.
So, who wants to try and pull this off? I'd like to do a TV show and a
podcast. The format would be some combination of live call in debate and debates
between the local holy rollers and a panel of us. I'd also like to do youth
outreach activities (sorry, I can't be more specific than that, but I
don't have a format in mind yet). So, who wants to
have some fun and kick
some ass for rationality?
