Sestraluna:
Sestraluna is a professional dance troupe specializing in belly dance and world dance fusion. Each of our dancers brings to the troupe different backgrounds, talents, expertise and goals through which we all explore the world of dance. We respect and celebrate those differences and encourage our dancers to expand their creativity, master technique and grow in their dance with dedication, enjoyment and passion.
Tribe MiaNaja;
Under the auspices of Studio MiaNaja, whose teachers include MiaNaja al Sephira, Anita Bah, Anani I'n aru and Naimah, Tribe MiaNaja is under the direction of Anani I'naru, who's inspiration comes from many sources - including Gypsy Caravan, Fat Chance Belly Dance, Ava, Sera, Khajira Djoumana - and of course MiaNaja al Sephira - to name a few - and her own Latino upbringing. All these influences played important roles in the development of the choreography for Snakecharmer and continue to influence her teaching Tribal Fusion Beginner/Advanced Beginner at Studio MiaNaja.
Troupe 'Hip'notic:
Having no director, Troupe 'Hip'notic is truly a democratic entity, each troupe member contributes her own individual talents and creativity to keep the troupe functioning and flourishing as a whole. Although formally formed in 2004, many of the dancers performed together prior to the formation of the troupe. Exactly how this group of dancers came to form Troupe 'Hip'notic is somewhat unclear, though it seems there was a mysterious morphing into the troupe as we know it today. When a troupe member is asked to recount the circumstances her eyes glaze in glitter-induced bedazzlement, her memories fade, and we often hear the words, "oooh, sparkly?" Troupe 'Hip'notic's eclectic dance flavor is influenced by both traditional and contemporary Middle Eastern dance; drawing elements from cabaret, Turkish, Greek, folkloric Egyptian, American Tribal Style (ATS) and tribal fusion. Troupe 'Hip'notic wishes to continually challenge themselves and develop as dancers while reinforcing the bonds between their troupe members. Most importantly they seek to entertain their audiences and thoroughly enjoy themselves through the experiences of their dance and friendships.
Gypsy Fusion:
Gypsy Fusion is a Tribal Fusion & Triberet troupe that is based in Annapolis, MD under the directorship of Despina Bast. Many of our troupe members have studied under Despina Bast, while others have had classes and training from Morocco, Asharah, Suhaila just to name a few. The choreographer for the dances you will see is Despina Bast.
Belly Dance Delight
A troupe of student and professional dancers who perform regularly at community outreach events, from festivals like Artscape, to nursing homes and halfas. We welcome new members who are already professionals or, at the student level, if they have learned some of our choreographies. Most choreographies can be learned in Nina Amaya's classes in the Towson and Baltimore areas. We have an awful lot of fun!
Egyptian Sun
Although Egyptian Sun's dance style is mainly Egyptian cabaret, audience members are drawn to their creative fusion with other dance forms. Egyptian Sun's members are continuously broadening their dance education through workshops with renowned teachers, in Middle Eastern dance as well as other dance forms.
