Hawaiian Hula:

Feel the rhythm of the islands, the Hawaiian islands! Learn the traditional Hawaiian dance of hula. Students will learn one complete choreography and be introduced to the language, culture and history of this fascinating island nation. Class is appropriate for all ages and all dance levels. Plus you will also have the opportunity to perform at the Tiki Hafla in August at Typhrodisia's Bellydance and Beyond.

Mary Kalei'awapuhike'oke'o Nelson:

Mary's dance experience included many years of ballet, tap, and jazz as a child and teenager and Irish step dancing as an adult in Baltimore. In1990 she met her future husband Paul and traveled to Hawaii for the first time. Subsequent trips led to an appreciation of Hawaiian culture, especially dance and she joined Halau Pulama Mau Ke Aloha Ka'Ohana 'Ilima in 2001, studying under Kumu Hula Kas Nakamura, eventually rising to the position of Alaka'i ( assistant teacher). In addition, she attended workshops with Na Kumu Hula Sonny Ching and Leialoha Lim Amina as well as the 2 week world hula conferences on Maui in 2004 and Oahu in 2009. She has studied Hawaiian language through an online program with UH-Hilo. In 2011, Mary is now under the guidance of Hawaiian Kumu Hula Kathleen Kulaniakea Kaleiki AhLo.
