February's teacher is Gene Schwartzman.
One and a half hours for $20!
Learn/Review 3 of the basic rhythms that are played for belly dancers – Baladi, Masmoudi, and Ayub. You will start with the basics of how to play the rhythms, progress to comfortably playing the rhythms with different speeds and volume, and finish with switching between rhythms on the fly. Depending on your comfort level, you will also learn different fillers and endings for the rhythms, as well as playing with snaps and pops.
This is a great introductory workshop for (advanced) beginner drummers who want to play for belly dancers or belly dancers who want to learn the rhythms, understand their structure, and be more comfortable when they are dancing.
Gene has been drumming for over 10 years. He has taken lessons from Daveed Korup, Carmine Guida, Mab Just Mab, and various other professional drummers and musicians. In that time, he has played with Ishtar (from Pittsburgh) at various venues, played with DragonSong at the Maryland Faerie Festival and Baltimore’s Artfest and Honfest, played as a member of the ‘house band’ at Mosaic Café in College Park, MD and at the Delaware Drum and Dance Hafla. He has also become a regular participant at the Java Hafla in Westminster, MD. Gene is a teacher by profession and brings his knowledge and enthusiasm of teaching to provide a smooth progression and transition during the workshop.
