Sevillanas is a traditional and popular flamenco style dance from Sevilla in southern Spain. This regional dance is performed throughout Spain at festivals, parades, and nightclubs, especially in Andalucia, the birthplace of flamenco.
In this workshop, you will learn two of the four coplas, or verses, where we will cover basic flamenco style, posture, hand, arm, foot placement and rhythm.
Bring soft-soled or character-heeled shoes; and if possible, a full skirt. Polka dots welcome!
At a very young age, Nica began ballet training with The National Ballet of Canada. She currently teaches belly dance and ballet in the Washington, DC area and directs her dance company, Arabesque.
Prior to belly dance, she was a professional ballet, modern, Spanish, Flamenco, and Classical Balinese dancer and choreographer. Her career brought her the opportunity to live and dance on four continents and perform at diverse venues, from Lincoln Center in New York City to the sacred temples in Bali.
