Iceland is a country like no other. It’s amazing that this little-visited, small island (about the size of Virginia) is an unbelievable, incredible natural wonderland packed with awe-inspiring landscapes. Everywhere you look, a smorgasbord of expansive and odd lava fields, ice fields, volcanoes, mountain ranges, ancient glaciers, thundering waterfalls, unusual geothermal areas, boiling mud, ice and lava caves, enormous craters, fumaroles, ash deserts, hot springs, glacial rivers and lagoons, and all sorts of fjords, cliffs and peaks. Your senses will be on overload!

And while nature reigns supreme in Iceland, the English-speaking cities and towns of the country are fascinating sights in their own right. From the modern and cosmopolitan capital of Reykjavík to the small, sparsely populated remote towns, fishing villages, farms and islands full of history and character that dot the countryside and coasts.

You can experience and witness this all for yourself by joining us this September when we visit the intensely beautiful, Nordic island nation of Iceland! Our visit will be full of fairly easy outdoor adventures. Only extreme in the uniqueness of the experiences. Not many people can say that they have walked with glaciers beneath their feet, trekked across jet-black lava fields, watched active volcanoes at work, stood behind thundering waterfalls, walked next to geysers spewing columns of white water and steam 100 feet into the air, boated on a stunning, a bright blue glacier lagoon journeying past huge icebergs, hiked atop sheer 400-feet high cliffs in search of Puffins, relaxed in the milky-blue, mysterious waters of The Blue Lagoon, cruised around a volcanic island where the mostly rebuilt town was destroyed when the volcano erupted, or explored the unreachable using 4x4 off-road Super Jeeps traversing across remote, untouched terrain.

But if you seize the opportunity to visit this extraordinary little country, you will have the very good fortune of having these experiences! Neither you nor your friends will believe the awesome photos from this vacation! (By the way, bring a good camera. And this does not include your cell phone!) This will be a memorable, not to be forgotten trip!

Since words really just cannot do justice in describing this staggeringly beautiful part of the world where Mother Nature’s stunning power is on full, magical display… the only thing to do is to mark your calendar and smile, knowing you’ll be joining other cool Gen X Travel kids on this truly, never to be forgotten adventure!

Even though this exotic, seemingly far-flung destination seems much too far away, it is much closer than you think! You’ll find yourself there quickly and conveniently with a speedy 6-hour nonstop flight from Dulles airport.

Remember, Iceland is not a destination. It is an adventure. So join us this September for an adventure of a lifetime!

Hi. I just joined the club and received 2 emails about the trip to Iceland Sept 7. It appears to have been closed out effective July 1, yet I keep getting emails. Is it still open for new attendees? I admit it is short notice to get things lined up (especially since I will be in Flordia until Sept 5th), but I might be able to pull it off. Is there anything on the calendar after Iceland? Thank you and I look forward to meeting many of you in the travel club. George

Hey George! Yes, trip is closed. :( Sorry that you are getting emails on this. I just officially closed RSVPs for the trip.. hopefully that will stop the emails. That said, looking forward to seeing/meeting you on at an upcoming meetup - one of our regular monthly meetups (e.g., lunch, local sightseeing activity, nearby day/overnight outing) or one of our trips - we have the Sept Iceland trip... next one is our winter getaway trip in Feb - will be posted soon! Welcome to the Gen X travel club - where the cool kids hang. :)

Iceland friends- I just heard that the volcano has erupted. No word yet on flight cancellations. Let's hope that the volcano "plays nice"

Hi Iceland trip-goers! I was wondering if any of you who live near DC would allow me to park at your place during the trip and cab/metro there together? I'm worried about getting to the airport since I live north of Bmore and am not familiar with Dulles.

Gail- will we get an email or something with instructions on how to pay the remainder of the trip? I believe the rest was due on July 1st and I haven't heard anything. Thx!

    June 28, 2014

    • Gail

Hey Melissa! Balance is due Aug 1...and yes, you'll get an auto reminder/instructions when the date gets closer. But I believe in your email confirmation, when you booked & paid a deposit, you should be able to use the user your account info (user name, password) to log in and make a payment whenever you'd like. The July 1st deadline is the drop dead date to book the Iceland trip (without the discounted early bird price).

I have always wanted to go to Iceland. Can't make it in early September though. Would love to hear stories/travel tips. I might go sometime closer to the end of the year. Better chance to see the northern lights (which is my primary goal...)
