The play tells the stories of 6 “Sistah’s” and how their hair defined them at certain times in their lives. You may have heard the expression, “Don’t touch a black woman’s hair” Hair is considered by some women to be their crowning glory. “Hair’itage” explores the relationships a black woman has with her hair. The stories are told through scenes, monologues, song and dance.
About the writer: Niccole Nero Gaines has a BA in Theatre Arts from Morgan State University. She has written and directed several plays over the years. For the past five years Niccole has owned and operated a natural hair salon. Running the salon has given Niccole the opportunity to speak to an abundance of women about their hair. Niccole decided to write the piece to open up dialogue about the black woman and her hair.An original play about the evolution of the Black woman’s Hair by Niccole Nero Gaines.
