We’ve bookedLacawac Sanctuary again, (www.lacawac.org), all to ourselves. Who doesn’t hanker for a hundred-year-old lakeside lodge in the depths of luscious woods in the Poconos when autumn blows in?
There are over five hundred acres of forest where you can chase down your personal pookas. A huge lodge (with a fireplace bigger than a Mini Cooper). Our very own pristine glacial lake (this is a rare thing around here), plus two ponds and one mile of natural shoreline on Lake Wallenpaupak. Boats. Five separate hiking trails, and our own private boreal bog.
This is all about environment and opportunity for your art, your writing, your self. Just like last year, there will be mornings silent and clear for writing, musing, or chasing wild notions; afternoons for relaxing and recreation.
Included in the price: Shockingly tasty vegetarian meals – breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks – prepared on site by Divya Alter, of Bhagavat Life. Plus daily yoga with Becky Jeffers. (She also does amazing body work, but that’s extra.)
Thursday afternoon through Sunday afternoon, October 20-24. All meals and lodging included.
Pricing: $395.00/person, double occupancy. Private rooms: $595.
($200 deposit required upon registration, refundable until September 20.)
Space is limited. It’s a big lodge, but there are only 10 guest rooms.

Where exactly? Lacawac Sanctuary is located near Hawley, PA, two hours’ drive from the George Washington Bridge. Transportation is not included in the price, but I’m working on something we can all share.
The sanctuary is on the National Register of Historic Places, a National Natural Landmark.
Also included: Wireless internet. Squirrels. The rustle of leaves in the night. More than 3,000 visible stars per guest.
Not included: Television. Linens. (Yes, you’ll need to bring sheets and towels.) Maid service. The constant drone of the machinery of modern industrial society.
Pets are not allowed, exceptions for familiars and sprit guides.
Management is not responsible for loss of inhibitions, destruction of creative blocks, or attacks of grandiose ambition.
(Note: We are taking reservations outside of Meetup.com as well, so there are more attending than may be apparent here.)
