Bond Over Stories

Serve yourselves a generous helping of tales from everywhere, learn about some ancient and traditional storytelling forms and be a part of the bonhomie as we come together for a Sunday of stories at Atta Galatta.

Those of you who'd like to tell stories this time, please send the name and a short description--one or two lines--of the story to Sowmya ([masked]) or me ([masked]). We will have to keep the number of stories to a maximum of five, so let us know real quick!

See y'all soon. :)

Cheers,

Deeptha & Sowmya

    Dear all,
it was great to be there to experience a forum of storytellers- interested in form, content, context, skill and developing practice through community sharing. also such a fortunate coincidence to hear and meet stories about trees, because on 26th/Sat, a group of other eco and tree enthusiasts (myself included), put together a workshop to envision a Tree Festival for Bangalore in the coming year. This festival will involve art, media, cultural, ecological and policy based interventions. we are looking at a wide range of collectives, groups and individuals to contribute, plan and participate.
We are thinking of the festival conceptually as a revival of the Katte- Katte, in Kannada refers to the public sphere/podium constructed around a tree of significance, and forms a central public space for discussion, ideation, and of course, storytelling.
more soon on this process and other related projects.

New thread - question esp for Deeptha and Sowmya - are we interested in expanding press coverage of BSN? I have a lot of work contacts in the field and could do something. On the other hand I assume you have contacts too and so was wondering why we haven't done it yet. -CK

Thanks, Chuck. Yes, we do have plans to take BSN to the press. We've been working on somethings and want them to firm up before making announcements. In fact, we're thinking of making the 6 months celebrations a public event and do intend to get some media coverage. Will keep you posted on the details. Your contacts will be very useful here.

Looks like the party is continuing here and I'm rather late to join! It's fabulous to witness such exchange between everyone. A quick thank you is in order to all of you who presented yesterday.

Vikram: A well organized presentation that was very informative. Nicely done!
Priya: A beautiful, poignant story, very well told. I personally look forward to more ecology-themed stories from you.
Abhineet: You've been the find of the month! Need I say more? And like Chuck said, Buddha always works! ;)
Lavanya: Great energy and emotion, a lovely little Japanese tune, a witch, a young monk...a complete package, in short.
Chuck: You amaze me! I learnt a lot from your performance yesterday and I'm more inspired than ever to start telling personal stories.
Abhishek: A moving tale, so well read. Thanks for sharing. I'm somewhat still under the spell of all the stories told yesterday. Can't wait for the marathon. Oh what fun!

    More power to us!

    Best,
    Deeptha

Good morning all! Thanks once again for all your kind comments :) I'm always raving about David Sedaris as my inspiration, so I thought I would give a link to a brilliant reading of his: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WoH7X1ZOslc

It's two stories with a little talk in between. NOTE: some of the language can be a little strong but not terribly so.

    Enjoy!

For those of you who are coming to Atta Galatta for the first time, here are the directions from Sony Signal (for those coming via Intermediate Ring Road) in Koramangala:

With Sony World and Ezone on your left, keep going on Koramangala 100 ft Road till you reach ING Vysya ATM (it will be on your left). Turn right onto Jyothi Nivas College Road; there’s also a Sukh Sagar Restaurant at the corner. Proceed on the same road, passing by Mainland China, William Penn and a string of shops and eateries on your right. After you cross Coffee Day (also on your right), turn right on to 17th A Main. Atta Galatta is the second building on the right. Our meeting place is on the 1st floor. Parking is on the side lanes.

Easier option is to feed 'Atta Galatta' on Google Maps and let it bring you there. It's accurate! :)

If you're getting really desperate and need to call someone for directions, do reach me on[masked] or Atta Galatta on 96325 10126. ;)

    See you soon!
    Deeptha

Wow! We have crossed the 200 mark...
Its deeply heartening to see how a small seed of an idea has grown into this magnificent Banyan....under which all of us, lovers of stories gather to share, tell and bond....
No matter who you are and how you can tell, we all have stories, powerful stories, big or small, significant or insignificant...but that is what this space has been created for...
    love u all

Hi Deeptha, if there's still time I'd like to tell... two possibilities: a personal (involving my relationship with radio), or a nonsensical Moroccan children's tale.
