Tell-A-Thon 2013

This story-crazy group has been around for six months now and it's about time we celebrate! Like we mentioned at the last Meetup, we're gearing up for a marathon storytelling performance and we're calling it the Tell-A-Thon 2013. The plan is to have 15 tellers, performing stories from different genres for a public audience. An event like this has not quite been done before, so we'll be making history of sorts! :)

This is an invitation to everyone who would like to tell on that day. Those who'd like to perform, please send in your entries with a two-line description of the story to [masked] & [masked]. The duration of your performance will be 5 minutes. Yes, 5 minutes, only! ;)

9 tellers have confirmed so far: Chuck, Priya, Abhineet, Sowmya, Deeptha, Falak, Aparna, Neeta & Lavanya. We have 6 more places left, so please hurry! Last date for receiving entries is 10th Nov, 2013. We will need to meet for a dry run on a convenient date before the event. The tellers will be mailed individually with the details once the entries are received.

Those of you who do not wish to tell, fear not. We need listeners too! You can come with your friends and be a part of the audience, cheer the tellers and enjoy the fiesta! You will be adequately entertained with a good dose of stories, food and drink. :)

Cheers,

Deeptha & Sowmya

    Dear Story Lovers,

I have to thank every one of you from my core for making Tell-A-Thon 2013 happen. We are absolutely stoked by the response. Your presence has made the effort completely worthwhile. You were such a supportive audience. For the record, our youngest listener was around 9 or 10 and our oldest was 80+! It’s heartening to see how this group is growing. I can promise you that bigger and better things are in store. For starters, we’d like to make Tell-A-Thon a flagship event and take it to different parts of the city. Our meetup will continue as always; we hope to find and nurture new, talented storytellers each time so we can expand this community of storytellers. With the launch of the Bangalore Storytelling Society, all these things will soon become possible. We invite each one of you to become a part of the society when memberships open. We’ll keep you posted about the details.

I attended this one after a great meetup at 'Atta galata'. The location was a big turnoff. Just beside the main road with lots of noises in the back. Maybe a good learning experience to choose a better place next time. I thoroughly enjoyed the short stories though.

    3 · November 24, 2013

    • Deeptha V.

Yes, agree. I suppose this highlights the need for more telling places. But till we try new locations we'll never know. Thanks for supporting us and listening to us. :)

Hi guys, its better to maintain a Story-bank(Database for all the stories)of people who narrated the story along with date and time. So, that we can remember the moments even after long time from here. Also, best stories can be rated with review's and can be entered into special log (like hall of fame). It provides good recognition for the guys who really deserves....howzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz that?

    3 · November 20, 2013

    • Sowmya S.

Great Idea...We will create a Story Bank...We have already had some fantastic stories and storytellers...I suggest we do the review post-facto...on the Meet Up forum...so no pressures on the Storyteller

    3 · November 5, 2013

    • Deeptha V.

      Will you be telling, Champa?

      November 5, 2013

  • Deepak S.

dear all, the last time I was at Urban Solace for a meeting, some major stone pelting happened from neighbour's windows and soon enough, many of them came barging in to shut down the event. I am guessing some ammends have been made to fix that by the owners of the space, but it gave me the impression that this could be a regular thing- neighbours storm in and out of events and being disruptive depending on their entertainment levels. Do think about the venue or check about this with the space.

    November 5, 2013

    • Sowmya S.

Hey Deepak; We did check with the owner and in fact he did mention this incident. But I hope we as a group will be more mindful about our noise levels. Having said that lets just try it out this time....as we are looking at different Telling Spaces...and hopefully it will be a better experience for us....but thanks for your shout out...
