Oscar Winner, "Best Foreign Language Film of the Year": "Amour"

With towering performances, Amour represents an honest, heartwrenching depiction of deep love and responsibility. Georges and Anne are a couple of retired music teachers enjoying life in their eighties. However, Anne suddenly has a stroke at breakfast and their lives are never the same. That incident begins Anne's harrowingly steep physical and mental decline as Georges attempts to care for her at home as she wishes. Even as the fruits of their lives and career remain bright, the couple's hopes for some dignity prove a dispiriting struggle even as their daughter enters the conflict. In the end, George, with his love fighting against his own weariness and diminished future on top of Anne's, is driven to make some critical decisions for them both.

Extremely moving, mostly because it got the mood and what happens to so many so right. There are 1000s of people in the UK alone going through similar stuff. First the attempt to care himself for his loved one, until he had to get outside help. the visitors who he ended up comforting because they get such a shock at seeing someone so ill.... and did you notice how he was comforting them, but the daughter especially showed so little concern really for how he was doing.... so typical for carers that their emotional suffereing goes unnoticed, all through the movie it was only the concierge and his wife who made any comments of admiring him/how was he coping. My heart goes out to all those 1000s of people in a similar situation at the moment.

An excellent attempt to show one couples attempt at dealing with death of a loved one. Excellent acting and realistic pace. A few too many gaps in the narrative and what was the pigeon all about?
