Visit the organization's website: http://www.baangerda.org

Baan Gerda is a children's charity that provides homes and care for HIV infected and affected orphans. The small community is based in Lopburi province in Thailand. Unlike a state orphanage, BaanGerda has a unique family environment with foster parents looking after the children and their daily needs. A medical team is on hand to ensure that they receive the best treatment and medicine.

A single-day event to spend with the children, play games and other activities to entertain them. Join me in this special day where we can share a valued time of fun, laughter and joy with the less fortunate by making them feel that they are not alone battling their fate.

Participation Cost: Baht 850

- Van transport (Bangkok-Lopburi-Bangkok)
- Lunchbox for the children (possibly thai food)
- Miscellaneous like candies, snacks and prizes for the games

NOTE: Our food is not yet included, we’ll buy our meals along the way.

Itinerary of the Day:

* 7.00 -7.30 am – Meeting time, Century Park Hotel (@the lobby)
* 7.30 – 10.30 am – Travel to Lopburi
* 10.30 – 11.00 am – Short briefing of Baan Gerda upon arrival
* 11.00 am – 12.00 noon – Activity 1
*12.00 noon -13.30 pm – LUNCH
*13.30 – 15.30 – Activities 2 & 3
* 15.30 -16.00 – Wrap up
* 16.00 – 19.00 – Travel back to Bangkok

Please be discrete with your attendance, take time to answer any emails of confirmation from me and  do not hesitate to change your RSVP if you think you can’t make it on the day. I will appreciate your coordination with me on this event and I will update anyone from time to time as the day draws near.

I’m looking forward to see some of you in this meetup!!

    Thought some of you may be interested in the following article which was one of the most read articles on the BBC yesterday http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-22294205

    While we may not be the "voluntourists" that it focuses on and have a good understanding of the realities of Thailand / Asia, it is interesting none the less. While I think Baan Gerda was a well run and responsible orphanage I think we should always think about the long term impact we really have. I do hope that we had a positive impact and think it is great the Celilu is looking at a more long term relationship with them to ensure this. What I would say is we should not be afraid to ask questions so we can learn and understand the issues and ensure that the impact we have is truly positive for everyone.

      Thank you Si for sharing this. I agree with author of this article, it's imperative for everyone who do volunteering work to have a clear idea of what they're participating to, be it an environmental, animals or health issues. But recently it's considered a norm where people or students involved themselves to volunteer overseas or local only because of academic reasons, or social trend. They enjoyed the trip, earned the experience, diploma next and yet without any grain of idea of what they've been to, seriously. Sometimes they're just after the fun and going down to the details is no longer much of concern.

      More charity trips for Baan Gerda will happen for sure!

    Hi Cel,

    Are we going to have like a meeting before? Like to discuss what activities we will play or do with the children. Or everyone just brings along their ideas and we can discuss it on the way. How about candies and other small prizes? Should we buy it individually or you will get them? How and when do we have to pay the participation fee? Thanks Cel
