Mansell and Bernard Mountain in Acadia Park!

This event is for people who want to do some more strenuous climbing in Acadia National Park, and also see the lesser traveled west side of the island. We'll take Perpendicular Trail from the southern tip of Long Pond, up to Mansell Mtn, over Great Notch, and then to Bernard Mtn. Then back down the southwestern side to Western Mountain Road, near the eastern side of Seal Cove Pond. milermeter.com says this is almost exactly 3 miles. We'll have to have more than one vehicle to coordinate parking.

We can then decide if we want to try some other trails if people are up to it. Maybe Pemetic Mtn, east of Jordan Pond? Maybe just drive around and sight see. Hope to see you there!

I'd sure like to do some longer hikes, like 10 miles or longer. Is anyone interested?

Okay, here's what I'm thinking: We'll take Perpendicular Trail from the southern tip of Long Pond, up to Mansell Mtn, over Great Notch, and then to Bernard Mtn. Then back down the southwestern side to Western Mountain Road, near the eastern side of Seal Cove Pond. milermeter.com says this is almost exactly 3 miles. I just joined this group and haven't attend any activity yet. I'd love to go on 26th. My son come back home from USNA for just 2-3 weeks. I'd like to spend some time with him. I will check him if he is interested. Is it too late to decide on Friday? And I am wondering if I am strong enough to keep up with you guys. I did Bubble Rock Mountain, Sargent Mountain and a couple of more (don't remember the trail's name). They are all very beautiful with great views. Can not wait to meet you all some day!!!

I think as long as you show up by the time we leave on Saturday morning, you should be fine!

I'll be hiking in the White Mountains that weekend, but I really appreciate the effort to put an event together for downeast hikers and am poised for the next opportunity. August 3rd somewhere? I have never hiked in Acadia and would be happy to check out any trail.

"That weekend" being the weekend of the 26th....

Hmmm... not sure about 8/3. Have fun in the White Mountains though!

Western Mountain (Mansell and Bernard) makes for a great strenuous hike when you take the Perpendicular Trail up Mansell and hike over to Bernard. Bernard would be the most western peak on the island. I would love the fun adventure, but I work Saturdays! Have fun.

Four weeks ago I climbed up Parkman and took Bald Rock Trail down. Had a slip and fell and broke my leg quite badly and had to be carried out. The trail is nice and has great views. Not that challenging where I made it to. Perhaps some steepness at the end (I didn't get to see that part) The fall might have been due to wetness on the rocks. Have a great hike and I'll join in as soon as I am able.

Yikes, Diane, how awful! Hope you are mending well and will be back on the trail soon.

So which trail are we doing?

I like the west face of Pemetic Mountain near Jordan Pond, the Beehive near Sand Beach, The Ladder Trail on Dorr Mountain, and the Precipice Trail, although the latter is still closed due to nesting Peregrin Falcons.

Mansell Mountain - Perpendicular trail and Razor back are good. Did them 2 years ago. Perpendicular is a beast to climb...so many stone steps...but it was a lot of fun.

Perpendicular is my favorite trail in the park! Looks like something out of the Lord of the Rings.
