Calçots are a speciality of the area surrounding Valls, in the west of Catalonia, proliferating throughout the Catalan community and enjoyed from mid October until end of April each year.
Calçots are a variety of onion that are roasted over flames and are eaten by hand, accompanied by a sauce called “Salvitxada” which is very similar to romesco.
We will walk (1h30 mins approx) from the train station at Molins Del Rei to Masia Can Portell where our Calçotada will take place.
If the group is larger than 10 people we will have a demonstration outside the masia to show how calçots are roasted, whilst we have an appetizer and wine served from a typical “porron”.
The menu within the Masia will be:
Unlimited Calçots with Salvitxada sauce
Porrones with wine
Grilled lamb, white sausage, blood sausage, chicken, churrasco, beans, potato “caliu” and allioli
Toasted rustic bread with tomato and olive oil
Bach Viña Exrísimo, Cava Codorniu Blanc de Blancs, Aguas y café
After the meal we will walk back to the train station.
Cost of the train is not included in the stated cost of this meetup.
