I have never heard of a hotel taking reservations much less checking people in without
first obtaining credit card information. So the hotel should already have your credit card
information to process your bill. In addition, if you call your credit card company and your
bank, they have emergency procedures in place for exactly these situations, so they can
immediately replace your credit card and direct you to an affiliated bank that will give you cash.
So forget the Embassy and the police, you have your passports, just call your credit card company
and your bank, and all will be well.
Dear Fellow Yorkie Meetup Members,
This is what's called a Teachable Moment:
With any due respect to Tatiana, (I have never met her at any of our gatherings)
this has ALL the
hallmarks of a classic con.
1. Target selection: A group in an affluent city, who has at least enough money to live there and own and maintain pure bred dogs
makes an excellent target.
2. Time urgency: A con person will always portray the situation as urgent, so as to leave little time for logic or research.
The con relies on good people letting their emotions, not logic, rule their actions.
3. Something Doesn't Add Up: Even in a good con, if you look hard enough, and with a logical, clear mind, something doesn't add up!
In this scenario, SEVERAL things do not add up:
A. The hotel would have a credit card on file to cover the bill, or they would have required
prepayment in full.
B. Tourists don't usually carry all
their cash with them, they usually leave some in the hotel safe deposti box.
C. If a mugging victim was too distraught to think of calling their credit card company and their bank, the hotel manager,
the police, an embassy and a money wiring service would ALL have employees with the presence of mind to suggest calling
the bank and card company. This is a normal situation for them, and they would know exactly what to do.
D. Why is this coming to strangers instead of family and close friends? Highly suspicious!
5. Vulnerable emotional appeal to nice people that makes no sense: That one speaks for itself, but why strangers and not family?
I would like to alert all the other members of the group that this has ALL the earmarks of a classic con, and I don't think anyone should
send a dime. We
are a lovely group of trusting, social and generous people, and I would hate to see an ugly con, take the sweetness
out of our lovely little group.
Please let me know if any of you have any other information about this. Unfortunately, this is not the first time I have seen someone
trying to run a con through a meetup group. Targeting people who are trying to create peaceful communities is something which should
be stopped immediately upon detection.
Best Regards, Krila

I'm writing this with a troubled mind, my family and I came down here to Madrid,Spain for a short vacation unfortunately we got mugged at the park of the hotel where we stayed, all cash, credit card and cell phone were stolen from us, but luckily for us we still have our passports with us.
We've been to the embassy and the police here but they're not helping issues at all and our flight leaves in few hours from now but we're having problems settling the hotel bills and the hotel manager won't let us leave until we settle the bills,
I'm freaked out at the moment and I need your urgent help!!!! l am wondering if you could loan me( $2,300), I'll reimburse you as soon as I arrive home. You can wire it to my name from any western union outlet around you. There's a Western Union money transfer service very close to me,Let me know if this is possible so l can email you the wiring details..l will be very glad to pay back as soon as am back home...You have my word.
