BAS Cloudland Canyon Star Party

The Summer Constellations will be the topic of the upcoming Star Party at Cloudland Canyon State Park on Saturday, August 23rd. Sponsored by the Staff and Friends of Cloudland Canyon State Park, the program will be presented by members of the Barnard Astronomical Society and will be held at the tennis courts. The program begins at 8:00 PM and we will learn how to identify the summer constellations. Several telescopes will be provided by BAS and observations will begin at 9:00. The summer sky is alive with many DSO’s (Deep Sky Objects) such as star clusters, double stars, galaxies and nebulae. These objects are trillions of miles from earth and not visible to the naked eye but are awesome as seen through our telescopes. Mars and Saturn in our own solar system will also be visible. The program and observing is FREE of charge but the usual Park parking fee of $5.00 per car applies.
