Build Session!

You can join us for our Community Build Sessions
where we are making projects for our
first group trip to World Maker Faire, Sept 21st and 22nd.

We started with this prototype created by John and Amy Abella:

Then, in two Build Sessions, we created two person-operated drawing machines,  one that stands as an easel, 6 feet tall, and one that can be worn like a sandwich board!

We took them to mini-makerfaire at Chester County Library in PA,
and had lots of success with the kids, but we did realize a couple fixes we need to do before World MakerFaire in NYC.

We also realized we need to have more than just one contraption for people to play with. So now, we are going to try making more contraptions that let people create art in a non-traditional way:

several pendulum paint spirograph machines (so we can set up different colors).
The challenge: How can we create these on a smaller scale, so that kids won't have to carry around a giant page with wet paint on it, while they explore other exhibits at Maker Faire?

several arduino drawBots: Ashley Pigford, a UD professor, will do a workshop with us on basic drawBot design, build and programming.
The challenge: we discuss as a group what we can do to customize and rethink the design/function. Ashley would love to think about different personalities / designs we can develop for different bots.

So, come tinker with us!

Here are some supplies we'll need:

For the Pendulum painting:
Bamboo poles, or dowels
measuring cup
bottles with squirt nozzles
Tempura paint
hole punch

For the Drawbot:

Continuous Rotation Servos (2 of them)
Servo Wheels (2 of them)
Half-size breadboard
9V battery holder with switch & 2.1mm plug
Breadboarding wire bundle

9V batteries
electrical tape
rubber bands
hot glue gun
corrugated plastic

See you next Sunday!
