Debate Over Drinks

An informal discussion group on the perennial topics and hot cultural issues in a pleasant pub setting!
Perfect for anyone eager to meet new people in an unusual way and have a good time, while questioning why you believe what you do along the way!

********
We don't practise typical Oxford Union style debating.
Format:
-A motion is revealed
-Vote provisionally For, Against or Abstain
-Discuss the strongest points of your case and rebuttals to counterarguments in groups with your likeminded voters
-Reconvening, two volunteers per group speak their thoughts to everyone uninterrupted for up to 2 mins
-Discuss in smaller groups of mixed opinions. Drifting between groups and trips to the bar for refreshment are encouraged!
-Final vote to see if you have changed your thoughts
Two motions are discussed in this fashion one after the other each night.
After the two motions, many of us stay until late to have free discussion on anything and everything!

If you’re fed up of tiring your friends with your insatiable appetite for debate, are constantly in trouble for playing devil’s advocate or simply want to discuss the important topics of the day outside of the office without being told "it’s not the time or place" then this is the group for you!

Please arrive at the Westgate (upstairs) from 7pm for 7.30pm start.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
