What tech-related project are you working on?

Arkivum offers a unique data archive service for large data sets (100s of TBs to PBs) that need to kept 100% safe over multiple decades. Think research data, gene sequences, patient records etc. We're focussed on data integrity - we create 3 copies of each piece of our customer's data - and we use data tape, still the best medium for storing data for the long term. We're the only cloud storage service using tape and even though tape technology is over 60 years old, its latest incarnation provides very cost effective storage for the long term. Using fully automated tape libraries means we can start streaming customer data in under 5 minutes - so even multi-PB data sets are always available. As CEO (and an ex-CTO) I have to limit the time I spend getting deeply involved with technology, and Arkivum has an excellent CTO to do that job.

What's your role on your current project?

As CEO (and an ex-CTO) I have to limit the time I spend getting deeply involved with technology, and Arkivum has an excellent CTO to do that job. I spend much of my time working on strategy, day to day management and working with our investors, but the most important part of my job is making sure our customers receive excellent service and can sleep safely, knowing their data is safe with us.

If you could work on any project in the world, what would it be?

Hmmm.... I have a passion for aviation - I always wanted to be an astronaut when I was a kid - so I'd love to work in the aviation sector, but not on theoretical projects - I want to make stuff fly?
