Explore Mount Tamalpais Park--Dipsea Trail/Steep Ravine Loop--Ferry/Bus & Dinner

Join us for a fun walk/hike & exploration on Mount Tamalpais along the Dipsea Trail & Steep Ravine Loop, a popular trail for many hikers year round. This is a great trail that includes great views of the Bay Area, Marin Headlands, the Golden Gate Bridge, Potato Patch, and the gorgeous coastline. Have a great time socializing while meeting new friends & enjoy lots of fun & laughter. Members in the group are always nice & friendly. We always have a lot of fun whenever we all get together with a couple of other meetup groups also invited. So join in on the fun! We look forward to seeing you there!

• No special shoes are required, but good supportive athletic shoes are advised. Even though the path is mostly on fire trails, there are some sections with loose gravel. Temperatures can change quickly & it can be cold, so layers of clothing is highly recommended. This is a family friendly area & a moderate hike that is steep in a few places. It is a section of Mount Tamalpais State Park & well maintained.

We will meet at Peet's Coffee & Tea inside the Ferry Building for a meet & greet & intros. At 12pm, we take the ferry to Sausalito. We will be in Sausalito briefly before catching the bus to Mount Tamalpais (53 mins). We start the walk at the Pan Toll Ranger Station. As the walk progresses the trails will head into Redwood Forest, and drop down into the heart of Steep Ravine. The trail becomes a series of stairs & steps immediately adjacent to a seasonal creek. Once in Steep Ravine, the trail criss-crosses the creek repeatedly & regularly climbs more steps, then up a short ladder next to a waterfall in the quest to gain altitude. Then, it’s uphill back to the Ranger Station at the start at Mount Tamalpais. The reward is one of the best Redwood Canyons around. It's quite a distance & a few hills, so you will get a pretty good workout. We will be back in the city by 7:15pm for some tasty Asian food.

• PLEASE NOTE: Before meeting up at Peet's Coffee & Tea, be sure to grab your lunches, drinks & snacks or whatever you may need for our exploration at Mount Tamalpais. Conveniently, there are plenty of stores, delis & shops inside the Ferry Building.

• LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY: Moderate with some rest stops for photos.

• AFTER URBAN HIKE: Dinner, dessert, drinks, karaoke &/or whatever the night brings!

(NOTE: Cash only please at the restaurant for quicker & easier bill payment. Thank you!)

    Hi everyone,
So sorry for the mix-up! Thank you to those who kindly & generously contributed to the organizing fee. If you decide you would like to join another one of our hikes -- please mention credit for Mt. Tam & I would be happy to waive the fee for next time. Have a great rest of the weekend & it was nice meeting all of you!

P.S. For the newcomers, a lot of members do come back cuz it's a lot of fun on our hikes, so don't hesitate to join again.

    Hi Cela,
How steep are the trails on this hike? Anything like the Tilden hike last weekend or will the elevation gain be more gradual?
Roughly, how long (miles or hours) will the hike portion of the event be?

This trail is the most popular in Mt Tamalpais. You can read all the specifics by googling Dipsea Trail and Steep Ravine (Everytrail). The bus drops us at the start point & we do a loop. It won't be like last week. Probably 3 hrs with usual group pace & rest stops for photos.
