This is an open invitation. No official Meetup Group Organizer or organized hiking group has been planned. If people want to casually meet up outside the Mountain Home Inn at 10am a hiking group can be formed. Basic trail directions are found below.
Please be aware that parking on Mt. Tam is limited so plan to leave early enough to park and connect with the 10am meet up at the Mt Home Inn.
Here's the link to the event and a video from last year:
The best way to reach the Maifest is by hiking to it! We recommend getting a Mt. Tamalpais trail map, which may be purchased at the club, REI, or wherever trail maps are sold. There are two main trails to the Tourist club, as indicated in the hiking directions below:
1. The Redwood Trail. Park at the trailhead across from the Mountain Home Inn, walk south on the Panoramic Trail along to the highway, then turn right down the Redwood Trail. This hike takes about 25 minutes.
2. The Dipsea Trail to the Sun Trail. Although there is a significant amount of uphill on the way here, it is all downhill on the way home! Park in downtown Mill Valley, walk up Throckmorton to Old Mill Park, and start up the Dipsea Steps. At the top of the Dipsea Steps, turn right to walk a short distance on the trail along the road, then continue up Walsh. At the top you will reach Panoramic Highway; cross it and turn right at the Y to continue on the Sun Trail. This hike takes about 45+ minutes.
If you get lost, ask another hiker where to go or listen for the music and good cheer!! Again, be sure to bring adequate money, water, layers of clothing (you may end up staying longer than you thought) and food (if you do not plan to purchase the yummy Bavarian delights sold at the Maifest event.
Have Fun, be Safe & Enjoy!!
PS- Please remember that hiking under the influence can be dangerous. Be sure to limit your intake of beer (alcohol) and be aware that you will be hiking out and then driving your car on windy mountain roads. Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water is essential.
