This is a moderate 6-mile loop in Monte Bello Open Space Preserve. A lovely route that goes through a small shaded canyon, then up a long uphill in open grassland to Black Mountain for a great 360-degree view and back again. Hike should take 2.5 - 3 hours.
This is a moderate hike. My pace will be about 2.2 mph.
Meet at 11:00 am *sharp* at Monte Bello parking lot. We will start the hike shortly afterwards. I will not wait very long for latecomers! Page Mill Road is a slow winding road, so allow enough time for that.
Hike is limited to 15 people. Be considerate of others and RSVP only if you will definitely attend.
If the weather.com forecast for Portola Valley is 40% chance of rain, then I will cancel the hike.
What is a Poetry Hike?
If you like, bring a short poem or an excerpt of a longer one. Two or three times during the hike, we'll stop briefly and people can recite the poems they brought. This is completely optional, and the stops will be brief. You can bring poetry from the literature or your own. More poetry at lunch. This is something I did for years as a hike leader in Washington DC and it was a lot of fun.
Aim for this point:
Using caution when carpooling.
