Tennessee Valley and Coastal Trail Hike

On a clear day, this hike provides some of the best views in the Bay Area. The hike, which begins at the Tennessee Valley trailhead, is approximately 7-8 miles and will last about 3 to 3-1/2 hours. Elevation changes are over 900 feet.

We'll begin the hike along Tennessee Valley Trail, continue to the Coastal Trail and Coyote Ridge Trail, and then return to Tennessee Valley via the Coastal Trail. We'll pause for lunch at the Tennessee Valley beach. (See trail map.)

Important: Because of the elevation changes, this hike will require some stamina to keep up with the group, and it will be too difficult for some people. Please do not join us if you have difficulty climbing hills, or if you cannot keep a steady pace of at least 3 miles an hour.

For more information about what to expect from this hike and other typical hikes with this group, see  Our Hiking Philosophy .

How to get there

For those who may be wondering, here are some statistics for this hike: We started at 200 feet above sea level, climbed to about 900 feet, descended to about 200 feet, climbed to 600 feet within about a 1/3 of a mile, descended to sea level (Tennessee Valley Beach), and then returned gradually to 200 feet.

Gorgeous hike and views - definitely will need to do it again when it's not foggy. Great company too - really enjoyed meeting everyone.
