This month East Bay Atheists features Dr. Minda Berbeco of the National Center for Science Education, speaking on the topic of climate change denial, attempts to undermine the science in public schools and the challenges ahead. She will address the recent legislative session which saw 8 bills introduced since January across the country to undermine science education, as well as current bills that are already in place. In addition, she will discuss popular science denial curriculum that is being disseminated to schools and how it undermines quality education. Last, she will talk about what citizens, parents, teachers and administrators can do to support quality science education.
Minda Berbeco is the Programs and Projects Director at the National Center for Science Education and a visiting scholar at the UC Berkeley Museum of Paleontology. She has a PhD in Biology from Tufts University and has researched the interaction between climate change and terrestrial systems. She presents and writes regularly about the science of climate change and its effect on biological systems, as well as legislative efforts to undermine science education in public schools and climate change denial in general.
Afterwards we will go to dinner at King Dong Restaurant, 2429 Shattuck Ave. (near Haste) in Berkeley. Please join us.
