Beer Not God First Anniversary!

Please join fellow East Bay Atheists as we celebrate our first anniversary of monthly Beer Not God gatherings. Whether you're a regular, have only come once, or never made it to one we'd love to see you for our anniversary. We're not going to be meeting on our usual first Tuesday this time as I'll be out of town, so we're making it the second Tuesday, June 11th. We'll meet at Era Art Bar on Grand Avenue in Oakland - it's just east of Broadway in uptown, and close to the 19th St. BART station. Street parking is also free after 6:00. There's no logo in front so if you haven't been before Era can be a little tricky to find, but if you're walking from Broadway and you get to the Subway or Farley's Easy, you've passed it. Upstairs is a comfortable atmosphere that we usually have to ourselves to sit and talk about issues in a friendly environment. Whilst enjoying beer (or whatever your pleasure tends). They have happy hour until 7:00 so ask at the bar what the specials are, then head upstairs to join us.
See you there!

This was a particularly nice, fun gathering. There seemed to be more chairs! Excellent conversations. Congrats to Corey for doing this. (Also, sad condolences to Larry at the passing of his pet.) Thanks to Ski for the EBA round of drinks. Wonderful group. We may not solve the world problems but we know more about these things than most folks.

It was great to see everyone there last night, and we had some great conversations. On to the next year!

To the gentlemann on my left (sorry I've forgotten your name) I was talking to about raising his kids - you might find this interesting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1mNVBp1gR8&list=WL11A950FBA77E75B2

I also mention a topic of the salvation army and their christian belief and stance on the death LGBTQ and their parents. here is the link for verification.

Thanks for the beer, Ski! It was also a pleasant event and some great discussion topics. As I mention earlier to some of the attendees, I am an agnostic and a secular humanist. Here is a facebook page to learn more about it and a pretty thorough definition.

    https://www.facebook.com/GSHMP

"The philosophy or life stance of secular humanism embraces human reason, ethics, social justice and philosophical naturalism, while specifically rejecting religious dogma, supernaturalism, pseudoscience or superstition as the basis of morality and decision making. It posits that human beings are capable of being ethical and moral without religion or a god... Many Humanists derive their moral codes from a philosophy of utilitarianism, ethical naturalism or evolutionary ethics, and some advocate a science of morality."

We're having a big review from our funding agency this week, and there's a dinner with the committee I have to attend. I won't make this one, but I should get there next month!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
