Humanism and Toleration: What are the Limits of Toleration for Humanists?

Tolerance is a Humanist Value but are there limits?  What exactly do we mean by tolerance?  Can we oppose any group and still be tolerant?  What's the difference between tolerance and acceptance?  Marty Carcieri will moderate this discussion.  Marty is an Associate Professor of Political Science at San Francisco State University, where he teaches courses on Constitutional Law and Political Theory.  Marty is a long time humanist, rationalist, and Great Books discussion group leader.

OK - here's the next iteration:

I come to your house. I say my friend has sent me to tell you that you'd better do what he wants, or he's going to roast you on an open flame, and he wants you to give me money.

If my friend's name is Mikey, that's a felony.
If my friend's name is Jesus, that's a tax deduction.

Even if there really is no Mikey, and no open flame.

Just the shot in the arm that I needed. Great discussions. And Marty is a fine facilitator!

I spent 15 minutes driving in circles around[masked]th street SF trying to find a parking space. I just got disgusted and went home. This is the second time this has happened and I will never plan to attend a program at that address. Please find a location that has reasonable parking in the neighborhood.

It's close to the 16th Street BART station

I only do BART to this location, having spent my share of 45 minute blocks driving around looking for parking, although I have seen that some have better parking karma than I.

Please include charge or requested donation, if any, in event description. Cost is a consideration for some of us. Thank you!
