Crowdsourcing Critical Thinking

"A Reason for Reason" skeptical speaker series brings you tools of the trade from a visiting Australian speaker (direct from The Amazing Meeting)...

CROWDSOURCING CRITICAL THINKING

Why hasn't the internet brought about the scientific rational revolution we all expected?

If everyone is connected to all human knowledge, why are so many people so poorly informed? Why do so many people still believe in so many crazy things? More importantly, how can we fix it?

The speaker presents a vision for using the internet to raise an entire generation of skeptical, rational, critical thinkers. With a little crowdsourcing, a simple and effective system can be built to constantly remind people to 'Question Everything'. Powerful examples of critical analysis and repeated demonstrations are used to enable the public to learn for themselves.

About the Speaker:
Shane Greenup is the founder of rbutr - an application which allows people to follow inter-website debates and easily find counter-arguments to webpages they are viewing . He graduated from the University of New South Wales with a degree in Molecular Biology (hons) and majored in both Philosophy and the History and Philosophy of Science in his Arts degree. Since graduating, he founded and currently operates his own internet business, allowing him to spend time on interesting projects like rbutr. Shane is a skeptic, a transhumanist, an entrepreneur, an extreme sports lover and a traveler.

Of course... the talk usually goes ~45 minutes, we take a ~20 minute break, then do Q&A for another 1/2 hour.

I'd love a ride or even just a driver as I have a vehicle, but my meds don't make it safe for me to drive longer distances. Anybody game? I'm in Oakland.
