Beer Not God

Please join fellow east bay atheists at Era Art Bar & Lounge for another night of tasty beer and interesting conversation with fellow freethinkers. Era is located on Grand just east of Broadway, easily accessible from the 19th St BART station, and street parking is free after 6:00. So come on in, get a drink (remember to ask what's on happy hour special) and head upstairs to the comfy chairs.

Just wanted to say that I had a great time! True, we were limited to discussions among two or three due to the noise level, and my voice gave out after an hour, but it was worth it!
    I love talking physics!

The music was too loud, we had to speak in many small groups of two or three, versus being able to hear what everybody was discussing. A more quiet venue might be nice, though I do like the space.

Agreed, although it did get a few dB quieter after happy hour ended. The bartender said it was DJ night and they had no separate control over the volume upstairs. Since Meetup seems to collect data on venues it would be nice if they made that available for searching for one - a combo of beer, no music and decent seating for a large group seems to be hard to find. This is where one really needs an English pub!

There are a few venues in Oakland that may be better suited to beer and conversation - I will compile a list of them for those interested :)

Sorry we couldn't make it! Got caught in delays from SF. See you all next time, hopefully.

Massive BART delays out of SF, there may be latecomers.

I too live in Silicon Valley - Menlo Park. New in the Bay Area and trying to decide if driving to this event north at rush hour is a better choice than trying to figure out Caltrain and BART for the first time. Any advice?

Thanks, I'll try that. I would like to start learning the public transit.

That does sound like the wiser option, there. CalTrain and BART are awfully spendy

I've been wanting to come to this for some time, but unfortunately I live pretty far from oakland (I live in east palo alto). However, I decided to bite the bullet and make the journey! see you all there, and I look forward to meeting everybody!

I would love to attend as I miss moved to Oakland a few months ago & I miss my friends from Stockton Atheists. How late does this typically go? I couldn't arrive until 7:45 & not sure if people will still be there.

The group is usually there until around 8:00, with some people leaving earlier and most of the time others lingering later. I'd say there's usually at least a small group there 'til 8:30 or so.

Unfortunately I can't make it as I'll be in Minnesota. I'd rather be able to join you all.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
