April 3 meeting of Rossmoor Atheists

  • April 3, 2014 · 1:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

We will hear a talk by Pat McGinnis about Chick Tracts, a popular cartoon-based internet proselytizing directed at young people. These are short cartoons that "teach" the "lesson" of why nonbelief is bad, stupid etc and how the "smart" are returning to God and belief. The extremist organization behind them is camouflaged by the cartoon vehicle. We will discuss ways we can immunize young people against them with short, snappy comments that disclose their true aim of indoctrination. We will also view an evocative video short by Gene Gordon on how he became an atheist as a youngster and, time permitting, discuss with Eric Stone whether accusations that atheists "bash religion" have any validity. Coffee and cookies will be provided. If coming from outside of Rossmoor, inform security at the gate that you are attending this meeting. Las Trampas Room, Hillside Clubhouse of Rossmoor Senior Community, April 3, 1:30-3:30 pm,. If problems have security call Eric Stone.

This looks great - could we have some online discussions of these? I'd love to hear how the people who attend react to the video.
