Baruch Spinoza, Gilbert Murray, Bertrand Russell and Irwin Edman wrote beautifully concerning the atheist world view. Russell's "A Freeman's Worship" was well known 50 years ago but today is somewhat neglected. These authors' works deserve to be remembered. They clarify what it means to be an atheist. These writings testify to the positive aspects of disbelief and negate the popular but simplistic understanding that atheism is merely the disbelief in a god or gods.
