Beer Not God

Seeing as the first Tuesday of the month is January 1st (New Years Day, in case you forgot), we're scheduling our first Beer Not God of 2013 for Tuesday, Jan. 8. We have run into a scheduling conflict at Luka's, where we've held the event the past few months, so we're going to try a new place in the same neighborhood. Era art Bar and Lounge is on Grand, across Broadway from Luka's. They don't serve food, so grab a bite beforehand or plan to eat after. But the good news is they have a happy hour that runs until 7:30. So come in, go to the bar and grab a drink, then head upstairs as we'll try to grab some couches and chairs up there. We'll see how it works out and see where we end up in February. Happy New Year everyone!

Had a great time, even though they were out of the porter.

I don't see anything that identifies the city, so would be hard pressed to attend at any rate. Probably, I'm not the only one.

Byron - sorry you couldn't make it. For future reference, if you click on the name of the venue (in this case Era Art Bar & Lounge) it gives a full address with map of the location. Hope to see you next time.

Byron -- yes, you're the only one. LOL :-) My excuse is lamer, though -- I went to the gym instead. Sorry! Beer Not God is the most awesome event title ever and I want to attend just because of that.

Great night everyone, good to see you all. I think we may have found a winner with this venue, not crowded (we had the whole upstairs to ourselves) and we could hear each other. Plus good happy hour prices.

My Ouija Board indicates it will be OK but not great. That's good enough for me!

I looked on Yelp and this bar gets really bad reviews.
Doesn't sound like a good place for conversation and they have a reputation for bad service -- am I wrong?

Well it sounds like it is even more hip than our previous venues but on an off night they might be glad of our company just like Lukas. I take Yelp reviews with a pinch of salt - especially the wildly negative ones. The bias seems to be more positive to me, and another source of reviews I looked at was strongly positive. I'm guessing our organizers already knew of this place and have checked it out.

An off night sounds good -- I agree about Yelp reviews but it does sound like on a busy night they are loud and the service is slow. On a slow night, they will be hip and quiet I guess. :-)
