Spend a week knocking off a hearty section of the Pacific Crest Trail near Lake Tahoe. This segment of the PCT runs about 65 miles between Hwy 50 and I-80, starting at the Desolation Wilderness, passing through the Granite Chief Wilderness and skirting a number of ski resorts as it heads from Echo Summit to Donner Pass. We’ll do six days of hiking, making camp based on the availability of water. With at least two of us driving (I can drive one vehicle), we can do a car shuttle between the two trailheads.
This small group trip is for experienced backpackers who can do at least 10 miles a day at Sierra altitudes. The elevations aren't too crazy- the highest point (on the 2nd day) is 9400ft, but generally the trail altitude ranges between 7000 and 8700ft, averaging around 8000.
Plan to arrive by Sunday to acclimatize overnight and start hiking Monday morning. We can talk carpools if we have more than two people coming, and interested folks can split inexpensive motel rooms in South Lake Tahoe on Sunday night.
Hope you can make it!
