BABW is one year old this month! It’s a funny time for an anniversary since we are still a couple of months away from backpacking season, but I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have become members, come along on trips, and become organizers. When I started the meetup a year ago, I thought that maybe a dozen or so women would sign on, but we had more than 100 members within 4 days! In our first year, we’ve grown to over 300 members and we’ve gone out on more than 15 backpacking trips. I know many of you have not had a chance to get out with us yet, but maybe this will be the season….

Our organizers will be meeting later in the month to see if we can get some early trips onto the schedule and to plan out some trips for later in the season, so keep an eye out. In the meantime, I’ve added some ideas about local places to backpack in the early spring to the discussions page. There’s also a link in another discussion to a new website that offers a sortable database of local hikes. It’s not geared toward backpacking, but it has helpful info about trailheads, hike mileage, scenic highlights, etc.
