I've spent about 800 days backpacking in the Sierra. I like frequent layover days. I don't mind strenuous hikes at a reasonable pace, but I am not a trail pounder. I backpack to enjoy the granite, lakes and streams of the Sierra, not to rack up 20 mile days. I backpack 30 - 40 days each summer (mostly trips of 7 - 10 days). I used to do 20 mile days (my longest single trip was Tahoe to Whitney). I enjoy cross-country hiking. Recent trips: I climbed Granite Dome twice last year (a month apart) and hiked from Tenaya Lake to Yosemite Valley via Cloud's Rest (among other trips).
Anything in the Emigrant, Hoover, Ansel Adams or Yosemite wilderness. I prefer trips after July 31st to avoid mosquitos.
I'm retired and have been a backpacker since I was 10 years old. I prefer trips in the Sierra longer than four days. I prefer hiking about six miles per day.
Great site for experienced backpackers looking for folks to go with.
