October Meet-up: Candide, by Voltaire

The poll results are in! Our humor selection for October will take us to "the best of all possible worlds:" Voltaire's Candide.

If, like me, you read about this book in history classes, but never got around to cracking the thing itself open, this should be a
treat.

Get your Wikipedia preview here, and read more about our enlightened author.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at Spice Monkey for a fun and philosophical discussion!

Thanks Katie for hosting. I mentioned that I read the book when I was a kid after seeing the musical by Leonard Bernstein. I looked it up on youtube. This video is of a performance with NY Phil, Marin Alsop conducting (one of Bernstein's main proteges), Kristin Chenewoth, Patti LuPone and many other great singers and fabulous chorus. It truly is a tour de force and I highly recommend viewing it. Bernstein and the librettist really captured the spirit of the book as does this performance.

Wow! I haven't read this book since high school. Hopefully a spot will open up, but if not, it is still a book I'd like to revisit!
