A special encore showing of Frankenstein (a stage production through National Theater Live) will be playing at the Rialto Elmwood on Halloween. What better way to spend the spookiest night of the year than with one of the most thrilling and eery creatures ever concocted?!
Frankenstein is a sensational production directed by Oscar-winner Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire) and starring Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek: Into Darkness, BBC’s Sherlock) and Jonny Lee Miller (Trainspotting, CBS’s Elementary) alternating roles as Victor Frankenstein and his creation. On Halloween we will see the version with Jonny Lee Miller as Victor Frankenstein and Benedict Cumberbatch as the Creature.
Frankenstein enjoyed a sell-out run at the National Theatre, and went on to win awards including the 2012 Olivier Award for Best Actor for Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller.
Childlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, Frankenstein’s bewildered creature is cast out into a hostile universe by his horror-struck maker. Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the friendless Creature, increasingly desperate and vengeful, determines to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal.
Urgent concerns of scientific responsibility, parental neglect, cognitive development and the nature of good and evil are embedded within this thrilling and deeply disturbing classic gothic tale.
The pesky details:
We will meet at the Rialto where I will be standing near Will Call at 6:30. Tickets for this show are assigned and the best ones are selling quickly - so I'll be buying a block of seats. If you'd like to sit together you'll need to send me $26.50 ($23 ticket + $3.50 fee) via Paypal (instructions below) by Thursday, October 17 to confirm your seat, otherwise you're on your own for tickets. This payment is non-refundable. If you find yourself unable to attend after purchasing a ticket, you are welcome to ask someone else to take your spot but it is your responsibility to work out payment details with that person.
The day before we meet, I will send an e-mail with my phone number and description of what I'll be wearing so you can find me. We will enter the theatre at 6:45.
You are welcome to also join me in reading the classic novel. We can meet for an early dinner at Summer Kitchen at 5pm to discuss.
