14th Annual International Russian Music Piano Competition in San Jose

It’s the best kept secret in Bay Area classical music. It’s the only one of its kind in Northern California. It’s the 14th Annual International Russian Music Piano Competition and it’s happening at Le Petit Trianon Theatre in downtown San Jose from Fri., June 7 through Sun., June 16

100 contestants from 12 different countries (Belarus, Canada, China, Indonesia, Japan, Macedonia, Russia, S. Korea, Taiwan, Ukraine, Vietnam, and of course the U.S.) and some of the most talented young pianists in the world, will compete in four different age categories from age 6 to 32.

There is, of course, an emphasis on music by great Russian composers (Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev, Scriabin, etc.), but there’s also music by great non-Russian composers as well (J.S. Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy, etc.).

The daily competition is open to the public and is ~*FREE*~. Parking is conveniently located across and just down the street from the theatre.

The Bay Area’s very own, Jon Nakamatsu, Van Cliburn Competition Gold Medalist and internationally renowned concert pianist has this to say about the International Russian Music Piano Competition:

"We are so fortunate to have the International Russian Music Piano Competition right here in San Jose. An organization of the highest caliber, this annual event showcases some of the world's most talented young pianists. I encourage you to attend and revel in the music (not all Russian!) and the competitive excitement. In doing so, you will support the performing arts in San Jose and help make this a cultural capital of Northern California."

If you enjoy classical music, you will enjoy The 14th Annual International Russian Music Piano Competition. And find out for yourself why it’s the best kept secret.

I went to the first one today and it was wonderful. I would like to attend others, but had trouble copying the schedule. The one on the website could not be cut & pasted.
Is there a version of the complete schedule of events that I can put into my Outlook calendar? Thanks!

It's my first time meeting with this group. How are we handling buying the tickets? Should we each buy our own before the concert? Also, is anyone meeting for dinner before the performance?

Hi Joan: Yes each person should purchase their own tickets. In addition to the daily competition which is free (see website for schedule) there are also 3 ticketed events: the Opening Gala Concert on Fri., June 7th, The Advanced Category Final Round on Sat., June 15 and The Winner's Concert on Sun., June 16th. Each of these 3 events has a separate posting on BACMM. Best to get your tickets from Ticketweb (see links above and on each individual posting). Will-call tickets can be reserved, by letting me know or you can just get your tickets at the door. I don't know if anyone else will be meeting for dinner before the Gala Concert this Friday, but I can't as I'll be busy with the contestant draw that takes place just before the concert. Hope this helps and please let me know if you have any other questions. - Scott
