The S.F. Choral Society is performing a semi-staged Carmina Burana tonight and tomorrow (Saturday) night. It's supposed to be really good. I'll be going on Saturday, and it would be great to meet up with anyone beforehand for coffee or dinner nearby.
This is Carl Orff's best-known work, a cycle of songs and instrumental pieces celebrating themes of fate, love, and lust and other vices. The texts are medieval poems from all over Europe, gathered in a 13th-century manuscript collection discovered at a monastery in Beuren, Germany in the 1800s (hence "Carmina Burana", "songs of Beuren"). The introductory piece "O Fortuna" has featured in movies, video games, and other settings requiring an intense, dramatic, foreboding sound.
Drop me a message or comment here if you would like to meet up.
