This message was from Lara today, if you can make it tonight I think you will have a wonderful time.
My good friend Christopher O'Riley has been criss-crossing the continent with his new album O'Riley's Liszt, a collection of uber-virtuosic Liszt transcriptions that has been eliciting responses like "sometimes overwhelming, always awe-inspiring" (Musical Toronto).
Tonight Chris comes to The Artist Sessions at Yoshi's SF with the West Coast launch of this larger-than-life project. He'll share with us the rarely-attempted Liszt adaptation of Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique, one of the greatest orchestral masterworks in the history of music which Chris attributes to the sound of “a really heavy metal band.”
Whether you know Chris from the world's great concert stages, from his game-changing recordings of Radiohead and Nick Drake, or from his NPR show From the Top, tonight offers a chance to meet the artist close-up, with pianistic pyrotechnics, revealing conversation, and some absolutely wonderful surprises (seriously!).
Doors open at 7:00 for cocktails and dinner, show is at 8:00.
Tickets are $30; $15 for students/seniors, available at http://www.yoshis.com/sanfrancisco/livemusic/artist/show/3251
Hoping to see you tonight!
