Bay Area Classical Music Meetup Message Board › August 26 and 27: Mendelssohn's Elijah: Performance by Rod Gilfrey and the S
San Francisco, CA
On Friday, August 26, and Saturday, August 27, at 8 p.m., the San Francisco Choral Society will perform Felix Mendelssohn's Elijah at Davies Symphony Hall (Grove St. at Van Ness Ave. in San Francisco's Civic Center, easily accessible by BART and MUNI). The concert features the amazing baritone Rod Gilfry who will lead the choir as Elijah, and we will be accompanied by a delightful children's choir, three wonderful professional soloists, and the California Chamber Symphony. The most popular of Mendelssohn's works, Elijah sets a highly dramatic text depicting the highlights of the prophet Elijah's life - including raising the widow's son from the dead, confronting the followers of Baal, the drought and miraculous return of rain, the conflict with King Ahab and Queen Jezebel, and the ascension into heaven on a fiery chariot - to choruses and arias that are nothing but sheer melodic beauty. Elijah truly features one hit single after another.
Tickets are available at the door or on the City Box Office website. Here is a seating chart for your reference. Seniors and students get $4 off per ticket in all price categories. Junior and senior high school students in particular can attend the concert for free.
