Friday evening driving to Carson Pass / Kirkwood.
Saturday XC ski to Winnemucca Lake. If you have BC or AT ski with skins/snowshoes follow trail up to Round Top.
Ski back to the warm beds and kitchen convenience of the van. Sunday we'll explore more trails in the area, ski the fresh powder and return to SF in the evening.
The Kirkwood resort is closed, buy you can ski on the trails that are normally groomed for free
Carpooling from the Bay Area recommended.
I have room to sleep 4 in my van (you must have sleeping bags) but would be happy to bring you to your preferred hotel in the area and grab beers. If you score a night in Kirkwood proper: it's just across the road. The Inn and XC center are just a 1/4 mile East of the Kirkwood Meadows Dr. There is also Caples Lake Resort half a mile further (http://capleslakeresort.com/winter).
We are just skiers like you, nobody is a trained guide, and we can assume no liability. As always, by participating in this Meetup you acknowledge that you are fully aware of all risks and are exclusively responsible for your own safety.
Let's get away for two or three days of (mostly) weekend skiing. This group is for all levels of experience. We can share expenses of cabin rental and food (cooking in). If you don't have skis, you can rent them locally. I especially like Lake Tahoe's Paige Meadows [http://www.examiner.com/article/snow-hiking...], near Sunnyside, thee miles south of Tahoe City. Paige Meadows offers options for all levels. Want to skate ski or like the grooves? Groomed trails are available with a ten minute drive to Tahoe Cross Country. Want to get away and not ski ... bring or rent snowshoes.
