This will be a 4 hour self-guided tour of the Elkhorn Slough. If you do not have your own kayak, then you can rent a single for $35 or a double for $50 for 4 hours. In order to make a reservation for a kayak, you need to call[masked]-5692. We will meet at 12:30 and then process the rental paperwork (for those renting), and plan on leaving at 1PM for a 4 hour paddle. Depending on interest, we can go for a group dinner at one of the seafood restaurants nearby in Moss Landing.
Located on the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, 0.5 miles from Moss Landing, the Elkhorn Slough has been described in the San Francisco Chronicle as the best place for wildlife viewing along the length of California Highway 1. It is a dramatic backdrop for wildlife year-round-- home to otters, seals, sea lions, and an infinite variety of birds. It is home to saltwater, freshwater and marshland wildlife. In the fall and spring, many migrating shore birds and waterfowl are found here.
