THIS WILL BE AN overnight hiking/backpacking trip in the proposed Castle Peak Wilderness in the Tahoe National Forest.  Location is off Interstate 80 near Donner's Pass.


SATURDAY- Day 1: Arrive at Castle Peak Wilderness parking.
8 mile backpacking hike to Devil’s Lake for overnight camping.  There will be between[masked]ft. of elevation gain for the day.  We will stop at both Andesite, Castle and Basin Peak to bag the summits and then descend to Devil’s Lake for the evening overnight camping.


Approximately 6-7 mile hike back to cars. Easy day compared to the first day. No peaks, limited elevation.

FEE: $10 pre-event fee to be paid with paypal. This fee covers the cost to the organizer for putting this event together.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: This event is for FIT members with back-packing experience and cross-country class 2 scrambling experience.  Some experience at higher elevations since we reach elevations above 9000 feet. This event is ideal for advanced hikers wanting a rigorous overnight backpacking/peak bagging trip.

HOW TO SIGN-UP. Answer the RSVP questions when you sign-up and join the waitlist. If you choose not to answer the RSVP questions you will not be considered for this event.Thanks!

WHAT TO BRING: Everything necessary for overnight camping: Warm Clothing, Tent, Sleeping Bag, Sleeping Pad, Headlamp, Mosquito Repellant, etc.

MEALS:Participants are responsible for all their own meals.People generally share food around meals but everyone should be self-sufficient. If you need to share a stove or similar items mention on the discussion board so others can respond.

WATER: Bring a filter or share with someone.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS TO TRAILHEAD: Take Hwy 80 all the way past Soda Springs and exit at Castle Peak/Boreal Ridge Road (should be exit number 176), turn right and take the next left, and drive parallel (going east) to the hwy for about 0.3 miles until you reach the parking lot for the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail). The large parking lot has pit toilets and running water in season. Look for the organizer driving a black bmw 323
