FUTURE SHORTS Winter Festival at Firehouse 8

With 2013 Future Shorts San Francisco Edition starts the second year presenting another outstanding programme of awarded and praised shorts at largest film festivals. This lineup features some especially intriguing and exciting characters, e.g., King Rooster Marcel from Belgium, outsider couple with a pet alligator, The S from Hell, Somali pirates, human birds, and elderly Swedes in bedroom.

Join our film-loving audience on February 8 at Historic Firehouse 8 (1648 Pacific Avenue/ between Polk Street and Van Ness Ave) and you will be warm and entertained for some good 2 hours full of exciting short audiovisual creations from filmmakers in US and beyond. There will be bar serving scrumptious snacks (served by MISSING LINK), popcorn, beer and sparkling drinks and great company to meet and socialize with.

The founder and creator of the global pop-up short film festival FUTURE SHORTS movement Fabien Riggall is going to be in the city on the very day, so hopefully he will be able to drop by and greet us.

LOCAL short film this time is going to be a 5 minute short "Undone" by the very talented Steven Hight.

Synopsis: A music-based story of Harold, an urban dweller who struggles blending into his surrounding culture and who daydreams of a happier existence. Created using a combination of 3D animated backgrounds, stop-motion animation live-action actors.
So, keep that Friday night open for the cinematic adventure of the season!

MARCEL, KING OF TERVUREN

United States - 2012
The rooster Marcel survives the bird flu, alcohol, sleeping pills and his son Max.
Though blinded in one eye, he remains the King of Tervuren. Greek tragedy as acted out by Belgian roosters.
Marcel, King of Tervuren is in competition at Sundance 2013.

WE'RE LEAVING

United States - 2011
Rusty and Veronica have to move out their home and try to find a new place to live with their teenage alligator, Chopper.
We’re Leaving is a tender glimpse at one couple’s quest for small triumphs in an uncaring world.
Jury prize winner at Woodstock Film Festival and receiver of an Honorable Mention at Philadelphia Film Festival.

THE S FROM HELL

Dir: Rodney Ascher
United States - 2010
Short documentary-cum-horror film about the scariest corporate symbol in history - The 1964 Screen Gems logo, aka ‘The S From Hell.’
Built around interviews with survivors still traumatized from their childhood exposure to the logo after shows like Bewitched or The Monkees, the film brings their stories to life with animation, found footage and dramatic reenactments.

CANDY GIRL

United Kingdom - 2012
A surreal coming-of-age short in which a young gymnast in competition begins to see the world differently.
Candy Girl explores the transition we make from idealistic childhood through the somewhat more murky world of the adolescent.
Underwire Festival Winner of the Outstanding work by female practitioner aged 15 – 25, supported by BFI Future Film.

LOVEBIRDS

Dir: Brian Lye
Czech Republic - 2010
Love Birds is a short film that sees humans acting as birds. A male and a female bird meet and fall in love. An egg is produced and all is happy in the nest until their love is tested and fate comes knocking.
A humorous love story that reflects the similarities between avian and human life.
Best Film at Primavera Film Festival, Leichhardt (Sydney) Australia.

SEEDS OF THE FALL

Dir: Patrik Eklund
Sweden - 2009
Middle-aged couple Rolf and Eva live in a passionless relationship. They wear and tear at each other and Eva begins to feel sexually frustrated. One night she tries to seduce Rolf. He dismisses her but then something happens that will change their relationship forever.
Special Jury Mention and the Audience Award at the 2010 Prague Short Film Festival from the Oscar nominated director Patrik Eklund.
