The Outside Man @ PFA

A French movie shot all in English as J.L. Tritignant goes to LA in this 1973 movie by noir director Jacques Deray (Borsalino, La Piscine)

"Jacques Deray is the post-Melville master of the série noire movie, and The Outside Man may be his masterpiece. Jean-Louis Trintignant plays a hit man dispatched from Paris to Los Angeles to assassinate the local mob boss, but his employers have set him up to take a hit from inside man Roy Scheider. He becomes an involuntary tourist, dependent on the kindness of strangers, notably Ann-Margret, the manager of a topless bar. Stripped of his passport and his rental car, he must make his way through a city that is portrayed without false glamour, and it seems that the filmmakers are discovering the city along with their protagonist."

—Thom Andersen

A very fun view of LA through a hit men story by a French director and screen writers with probably one of the longest scenes in which the lead character dies.

Yes, Giulia and I think it was another (of many) times they were making fun of hollywoods treatment of such.

Made me want to don a pair of bell-bottoms; like stepping back in time! I loved the French humor about "everything tasting better with ketchup," and that typical all-around foreign tragic ending. Too much predictable "happily ever after" in American films. Great time chatting after!
