ROXIE THEATER TO STAGE 1st EVER “I WAKE UP DREAMING” FILM NOIR BENEFIT FUNDRAISER ON MARCH 26
Since 1990 Elliot Lavine and the Roxie have been programming the best film noir festivals to be found in the Bay Area. Whether unearthing scores of rare and unusual poverty row B noirs or providing classic noirs like OUT OF THE PAST, KISS ME DEADLY, THE NAKED KISS, and BLAST OF SILENCE an opportunity for extended revival premieres, the Roxie has always led the way in adventurous, risk-taking film noir programming.
This May, the Roxie will once again present Lavine’s annual I WAKE UP DREAMING festival of noir and it promises to be one the strongest lineups in recent memory. A whopping THIRTY films will be shown over a ten day period – Friday, May 16 through Sunday, May 25 – that span the spectrum of pre-code crime, proto-noir, full-on film noir, and even a smattering of post-noir. The exact details of this year’s I WAKE UP DREAMING lineup will be announced at the Roxie’s first ever benefit fundraiser specifically dedicated to assisting financially with the ever-increasing fiscal hurdles facing independent repertory theaters all across America.
