Hey Guys, This month's upcoming hike will be a bit shorter than we are used to, but it's to a gorgeous spot that not many people know about, Carson Falls. Let's meet at the Old Sled Trail and Fairfax-Bolinas Road (should be plenty of parking along the road). You can use the map link above or this google map:
From there we'll hike up the Old Sled Trail though a forested creek canyon, up across a fire road and down into the lush, verdant, hilly valley below, where we will eventually end up at the Carson Waterfall.
Please note, the Falls are home to a few endangered species, such as the Yellow-Tailed Frog, which lays it's eggs in the stream and falls area. You can't go wading in the stream, or you may crush the frog eggs. Please keep that in mind. But there are lots of great orange salamanders that live at the falls that are fascinating to watch, as well as the Yellow-Tailed Frogs.
Then when we're ready to go, we have a couple of options which I will run by you all at the time for a vote. We can go back the way we came, or we can take the Carson Falls Trail back. If we take the latter, just know that there may be some poison oak along the trail, and we'll have to walk southwest along Fairfax-Bolinas Road to get back to our cars. Neither of those is a big deal, but think about it so when we vote at the falls you'll know what you want.
We'll probably not take the full time allotted, but I've marked the end of the event as 4:30 anyway.
Look forward to seeing you guys there!
**PLEASE NOTE*** We/I have no idea if cells will work here, so please take the time to get directions (both what I wrote above and using "get directions" from google) and milage markers before you leave so that you can meet us at the designated place and time. We'll wait 10 to 15 minutes for everyone and then will begin the hike. Let me know if you have any questions.
