Mount Tamalpais Hiking Meditation

In celebration of spring and because we didn't have a hike in April (and because I want a grasslands hike before the grasses all dry up), I'm scheduling a 2nd hike in May.

We'll meet at the Rock Springs Parking Lot on Mount Tamalpais in Marin.  This is a very big lot and there should be plenty of parking.  I'm not going to count on the Meetup maps anymore so don't use them.  Use this URL only (for some reason it won't show up as a link so you have to copy then paste into new browser window):,+Ridge+Ave,+Mill+Valley,+CA+94941/@37.910583,-122.6127,17z/data=!4m8!4m7!1m0!1m5!1m1!1s0x80859171bba904c9:0x43da01962c09067f!2m2!1d-122.6127!2d37.910583

We'll take the Cataract Trail to the Willow Camp Fireroad to the Coastal Trail back to the parking lot.  We'll take a break at Laurel Dell before getting on the Willow Camp Fireroad.  Round trip is about 5 miles.  First part of the hike is forested with redwoods and the 2nd half is in the grasslands, so bring sunscreen if you burn easily.  It's mostly a level hike with a  few slow inclines, though I'll take a vote at the break to see if people feel like adding a brief but steep downhill detour that will require a subsequent  uphill hike back to the parking lot.  The detour is beautiful for it's views and will be good for cardio.

If you are coming from SF, I don't suggest getting off the 101 at the Stinson Beach exit (Shoreline Highway), as this is almost always backed up lately and will be even more so on a holiday weekend.  Better to get off on E. Blythdale, take a left, go to Camino Alto and take a left and then left on Miller Road (which turns into Almonte Blvd) which will then turn into Shoreline Hwy.  Much less traffic that way.  Use a map if you have any questions about that - I'm just trying to suggest a better traffic option.  You'll still need to use "get directions" on Google.

We'll take the full time allotted, so if you need to be back at your car before 4:30, please plan to depart from the group early or consider another hike.

Look forward to seeing you guys there!

**PLEASE NOTE*** We/I have no idea if cells will work here, so please take the time to get directions (both what I wrote above and using "get directions" from google) and milage markers before you leave so that you can meet us at the designated place and time.  We'll wait 10 to 15 minutes for everyone and then will begin the hike.  Let me know if you have any questions.

The hike itself had beautiful views but was very dangerous in some spots.

Welcome Joveth! Not sure I have any tips other than what I'll say in my brief talk before the hike. Maybe others will have something to add here. Look forward to meeting you!

I have to meet with some people from India next weekend, so I won't be able to do the hike. I was looking forward to the hike on Mt. Tam.

How do I get the link to go to a mapped page. I clicked on it and nothing happened. I right clicked on it, but it won't give the oppition to copy, so I can't paste it into another tab. PS - I don't know how to use google maps either.

Hi John, I don't know why the URL won't act as a link. But you can manually highlight the whole URL, choose copy with keyboard shortcuts or under the edit menu and then paste into a new browser window. Regarding no knowing how to use google maps, I'm sorry but I will leave that to you to educate yourself by just doing a web search on how to use google maps. Hope that helps.
