El Corte Madera Preserve Hiking Meditation - South Bay

We'll have another South Bay hike in August.  This is the same place we hiked last October, only this time we'll be taking different trails.

Let's meet at the trailhead gates.

Here's the google map (DON"T USE THE MEETUP MAP):

https://www.google.com/maps/place/El+Corte+de+Madera+Creek+Open+Space+Preserve/@37.412306,-122.306915,17z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x808fa71b47e4d187:0xba6e6955322acb04

Zoom into the map all the way to the street level photo and you can see the trailhead is marked by signs and various gates.  This is just 100 yards or so north of the parking lot, where you can park for free.

This time we'll take the El Corte de Madera Creek trail to the North Leaf Trail to the Methuselah Trail to the Fir Trail back to the trailhead.  And we'll likely take our break somewhere along the Methuselah Trail.  The hike is mostly forested, mostly downhill the first half and up the 2nd, though there are so many ridges that it's up and down throughout the middle as well.  Maybe a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10 and roughly 4 miles round trip.

We'll likely take the full time allotted, but we may get back by 3:30 or 4, depending on the hike goes.  If it is imperative that you be back at  your car before 4:30, please plan to depart from the group early or consider another hike. Look forward to seeing you guys there!

**PLEASE NOTE*** We/I have no idea if cells will work here, so please take the time to get directions (both what I wrote above and using "get directions" from google) and milage markers BEFORE you leave so that you can meet us at the designated place and time. Using google maps or GPS while on route results in some wonky, incorrect directions due to the sketchy reception for such devices in these remote areas. So again, it is best to get directions BEFORE you leave, at a place that has good internet access (such as a computer). We'll wait 10 to 15 minutes for everyone and then will begin the hike. Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Jeff. I would love a ride, thanks! Where would you like to meet in Berkeley?

Bummer - Was up all night with stomach issues. I think I have food poisoning from lunch yesterday. It sucks, but I won't be able to make the hike today. :(

Is your car big enough for one more?

Darn! I have way too much take-home work to catch up on, so I have to miss this now. But next time for sure. That's what I get for taking 2 weeks off to hike the JMT!

FYI: Guys, be aware traffic at that time on Route 92 may be really backed up.

I was planning to leave Golden Gate Park area at 11.30 -- too late?

      August 30, 2014

    • Dave

To be on the safe side I would leave a little earlier and check traffic conditions leading to the park. An alternative is to take 84, further south. which also leads to Skyline Blvd.

Guys, I don't think I will be able to do the hike tomorrow, my feet are hurting too much, today's errands have been a challenge.

    August 30, 2014

  • Sean R.

Sorry guys, but I am going to have to stay home tomorrow. I did another Meet Up group today - was doing some weeding and general clean up of an area in SF. Apparently, I cut my leg up pretty badly - which I didn't realize till I got home. The walk home was a bit painful, but when I got home I noticed the mangling! So, I don't think I am in shape to hike tomorrow. But I will be sure to check out the next one! Sorry again...

Hi Friends! Just joined the group, hoping I can come! I will need a ride, that's the only thing. I can BART anywhere and meet someone, but I won't have a car on that day (I'm renting it out). I am living in Oakland (Temescal). Hope to see ya'll!

I'll need a ride from SF, too. Maybe we can carpool or if you found a rid maybe I can take an extra seat.

This will be my firsit hike ever. I know how to get to Woodside Road and Skyline Boulevard, and it is just 4 miles north of that intersection on Skyline Blvd.

Do we eat lunch before the hike or is fasting part of the meditation process? New to the experience so education appreciated.

    July 27, 2014

    • Tim G.

Hi john, there are no rules about food. You can eat when you want. I'm guessing most people eat lunch before the hike. But if you want a late, light lunch, feel free to bring it.

Dennis, not sure what else you are looking for as you are not naming it specifically. But the groups is what it is. You may want to look elsewhere for this unspecified fun you felt missing at the hike. Best Wishes

Oops cut off/ being apart of it was pretty cool. I was exhausted at the end too but I had such a great time. Not really encouraging just me blabbing away lol
